Hanoi is located in northern Vietnam close to the Chinese land border. So this city has 4 seasons. From December to March, the weather in Hanoi is rather a cold ranging between 15-20 degrees Celsius. Winter in Hanoi is enjoyable for those of us who are used to the tropical climate. No need to go far to Europe or East Asia, we can enjoy the cool winter air in Southeast Asia even without snow. Hanoi has a long history that began during the Chinese occupation. Then Hanoi had become the administrative capital during the French occupation in the Indochina region (Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos).
Then became the capital of northern Vietnam during the Vietnam war until it finally became the capital of Vietnam since the civil war ended in 1976. In 2010, Hanoi celebrated its thousandth anniversary. With such a long history, it's no wonder that there are many historical buildings with several architectural styles such as French, Chinese and Vietnamese colonial styles. One of the main districts in Hanoi, Ba Dinh is also referred to as french quarter because of the many beautiful buildings in French colonial style. Beautiful buildings in this district are government offices.
In addition to French colonial-style buildings, there are many buildings in the style of Chinese architecture such as the Temple of Literature which is the first university in Vietnam. You will also find many pagodas and temples at many points in Hanoi. Hanoi is also known as the city of a thousand lakes. There are many lakes in Hanoi that we can enjoy such as Hoan Kiem Lake, West Lake (Ho Tay), Kim Lien lake and others. Most lakes are in well-maintained conditions so they are pleasing to the eye. Spend time on the edge of Hoan Kiem Lake or enjoy the sunset at Ho Tay which is worth a try while visiting Hanoi.
Hoan Kiem lake is also a landmark of the city of Hanoi. Lake which is located near the Old Quarter tourist area is also known as Sword Lake. That said, once in this lake, Emperor Le Loi obtained a magical sword from the dragon king to be used to defeat the Ming dynasty army from China. After the war, Emperor Le Loi returned the sword and changed the name of this lake to Sword Lake to commemorate this historic moment. In the middle of the lake, there is a small island with a turtle tower in the middle. The existence of this tower is connected with the legend of Sword Lake. Hoan Kiem lake is a favorite spot for Hanoi residents and tourists to spend time, especially on weekends.
The lake is surrounded by a beautiful garden in the style of Paris. There are many colorful flowers and manicured garden chairs. This park is also facilitated with free wifi and several cafes. Imagine spending time on the lake with someone nearby, or spending time reading and writing. Holidays are not only memorable but also quality. Another lake that is no less beautiful is West Lake. West lake is the largest lake in Hanoi. If you have a lot of time in Hanoi, try to rent a house or apartment around the lake. This area is occupied by many expats and upper-class citizens of Hanoi.
